In the Germany-wide TOP 100 competition, baier & michels (b&m) has succeeded and is now honored with the TOP 100 Award 2025. It is reserved for highly innovative mid-sized companies.

TOP 100 is based on a selection process led by innovation researcher Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Franke. He and his team analyzed the participating companies on the basis of more than 100 test criteria, which were divided into five categories: Innovation-promoting management, innovation climate, innovative processes and organization, external orientation/open innovation and innovation success. b&m convinced the jury with the b&m-ECCO TEC® (Ecological Coldforming Technology) manufacturing process.

The idea behind it is based on two forming processes that are well-known from screw production: Pressing and rolling, in technical jargon referred to as cold forming. b&m has refined the method, and so b&m-ECCO TEC® provides an alternative to the costly production of turned parts: ball pins, drive shafts, adjusting spindles – long-shaft precision parts with complex external geometries can now also be produced chiplessly, up to ten times faster and ready for installation.

“As less material has to be processed, moved and recycled thanks to the principle of forming instead of machining, we can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 67 percent,” explains Olaf Ambros, Director Technics / R&D at b&m. On June 27, b&m and all other “Top Innovators of the Year 2025” will come together in Mainz for the award ceremony as part of the German Mid-Sized Companies Summit.
